Description

The Alpine Light Down Series are Mont-Bell's highly functional mid-layers that flaunt characteristics essential for comfortable backcountry activity: aggressive warmth to weight ratio, while maintaining exceptional compressibility. The secret to the warmth of these garments not only relies on the high lofting 800 fill power goose down, but the inherent wind shedding ability of the 30-denier Ballistic Nylon shell. By blocking a large percentage of wind, a relatively light layer is able to conserve the heat your body naturally produces. Designing outdoor clothing with warmth to weight ratio in mind is great, but Mont-Bell also likes to think the Alpine Light pieces succeed when it comes warmth to dollar ratio.

Comments about Mont-Bell Alpine Light Down Jacket:

I just returned from Minnesota where the morning temps. were -10 F, -30 F wind chill, with daytime highs of -1 to 8 F. I don't think this jacket would be warm enough for those temps and wind if you were outside for extended periods, but for traveling around town, walking, shopping, ie. everyday use it is more than adequate. For extended periods layers underneath and a windproof/waterproof shell should work well if you are active. It has 2 outer pockets that are a nice depth, 2 inner storage pockets, & stuff sack. Much lighter, warmer, and more compact than my fleece. Felt a bit snug in the chest and body when I first tried it on; not confining just more conforming than I expected. The arm length was good. I'm 6' 0", 210 lbs., I ordered the large. I bought this mainly for a cold beating layer when camping & trekking, it should work well.

Comments about Mont-Bell Alpine Light Down Jacket:

I spent 10 days in the Lake Powell area fishing and backpacking. Temps ranged from 25 degrees to 60 degrees. We got caught in a 3 day windstorm on an exposed beach and the jacket was awesome. I got the jacket for 2-7 day trips on the AT, and is just what I was looking for. Beats Marmot's, Patagonia's, TNF's version. Thanks Montbell!

              Mont Bell

Montbell focuses on "Light & Fast™" and does so without compromising on quality, durability or function. The definition of what is functional can be very broad. It naturally depends on the products intended usage, user specific requirements and circumstances. Montbell takes this issue seriously and tries to develop a well balanced and wide range of products that can be used in extreme conditions for different intended uses. The range and depth of products offered is what makes Montbell an extremely competitive outdoor gear and clothing company.

In 1975, Isamu Tatsuno started Montbell with two of his mountaineering partners, Fumiaki Masaki and Sachiko Masuo. Since then, Montbell has been developing lightweight, high-quality, outdoor products that follow the Japanese tradition of kinobi: Function is Beauty.
