Description

The Petzl Ascension Ascenders are the benchmark for handled ascenders and have been refined to provide greater comfort; efficiency, ease of use. The ergonomically shaped grip is over-molded with rubber for greater friction and the broader surface provides greater comfort while pulling on the ascender. The grip is wider at the bottom providing better comfort for your hand during use. The index finger indent has also been increased offering greater efficiency when pulling on the ascender. The trigger to open/close the cam is now recessed inside the frame to avoid accidentally opening the cam while in use. The cam has been redesigned to minimize friction when sliding the ascender along the rope while the angled teeth provide secure grip in the worst conditions (wet, icy, or on muddy ropes). The geometry of the single piece aluminum frame ensures optimal handle orientation when the device is loaded and will maintain solid, comfortable performance even after thousands of meters of jugging.
  • Molded grip provides even greater comfort with a more ergonomically shaped handle. This new shape keeps your hand from sliding to the bottom of the frame each time you pull on the ASCENSION. The bi-material handle includes a rubber over molded grip increasing the comfort and your grip in wet or icy conditions.
  • Ascender can be installed onto the rope one-handed (with ergonomic thumb catch)
  • Self-cleaning slot on cam.
  • Chrome-plated steel cam with angled teeth and self-cleaning slot securely grips the rope, even in muddy or icy conditions
  • Mono-frame construction eliminates weaknesses and keeps the ascender lightweight and durable for years of use
  • - black frame with orange handle (left)
    - gray frame with orange handle (right)

          Comments about Ascension Ascender:

A STILL have a pair of this original model that came in the blue and yellow, right and left hands. They have served me well over the years and continue to be a valued addition to my rack. The design is nothing short of perfect for any needs you may face on big walls and beyond. The exceptional design has stood the test of time, and other manufacturers are now even starting to mimic it. They are very easy to open once you get used to the function, practice makes perfect.

            Comments about Ascension Ascender:

These ascenders are intuitive, color coded, and light - they work well.

My only qualm is that it feels more difficult to open the rope-grabbing mechanism than I think it could be. In a way, that is a sort of built in safety that prevents someone from accidentally opening it, but I still think it could stand to open more easily for one handed operation.

            About Petzl

            Petzl
The family company originated with Fernand Petzl, and his passion for caving. One of the leading experts of his generation, he spent his life experimenting with new vertical progression techniques and invented equipment that radically changed the status quo. The Petzl company quickly applied these underground tools and solutions to other vertical environments: to the mountains first - rock climbing and mountaineering - and then to the professional sector, with work and rescue at height. Petzl is now known as the leading innovator in the vertical world and has been associated with all major underground, alpine and Himalayan adventures since the 1970s. While closely involved with outdoor sports enthusiasts and professionals, Petzl remains true to the core values and ways: listening to and valuing their customers, taking innovative and practical approaches and demanding the highest quality.
