Comments about Buffalo Park 40 Sleeping Bag (Synthetic):

I am 6'2" and built like a linebacker. I have owned a Big Agnes Dual Core pad for several years and just used it as a simple pad with other bags to suit various conditions while tent & canoe camping. I wanted a bag that matched my body size and also gave me room to sleep on my sides and stomach. Combine the roominess of the bag with the integrated pad sleeve preventing rolling off the pad and this made for a great sleep on a winter campout in a cabin recently. If I could change one thing it would be the interior liner. I wish it was smooth and not so "clingy" feeling.

Comments about Buffalo Park 40 Sleeping Bag (Synthetic):

I just turned 50. I have half a dozen sleeping bags in my quiver for all conditions. I've slept in a mummy bag for about 46 of my years. On a recent trip to Newfoundland, my mummy bag wasn't doing it for me. On the cold nights, if I zipped in, I was finding that I couldn't find a comfortable resting position. 46 years in the woods will do that to you.

I was determined to find a big, roomy bag that allowed a good night's sleep. The fundamental problem is that most roomy bags rectangular take up half a pack. While this one doesn't pack as small as a lot of my minimal stuff, it's not nearly as bad as some of the stuff that is passed off as backpacking equipment. You can hike with it.

The temperature rating is very conservative. I've been comparing it to a Marmot bag I own, and the BA sleeps much warmer.

Roomy? You bet. In a pinch I could fit two or three of me in it. I'm not small. It also suggests itself as a winter over bag.

Some criticisms: I feel the zipper snags rather easily. Finding a pad to mate to it isn't easy. I'm not a big fan of BA's air pads. I have one, and don't feel it's as well done as it could be.

Be aware, one of the reasons that many BA bags have a small pack size is that they have no insulation on the bottom. They must be mated with an appropriately sized pad.

      I've mated it with a 25" x 78" Thermarest clone.

The resulting comfort is truly luxurious, but pack size on the pad is easily twice that of the bag, and the pad is heavy. The ideal extra-large mattress that will combine with this hasn't been made yet. For car camping and ovenights, this likely wouldn't be an issue. For multi-day treks, the pad weight could break the deal. It's a five-star sleeping system waiting for a five-star pad.

Comments about Buffalo Park 40 Sleeping Bag (Synthetic):

I mostly motorcycle camp and pack size is more important than weight. It packs small for its size. I was unsure how the system would work with the pad slid into the bag sleeve. It was perfect. The bag stays put and no movement trying to wrap itself around me. Could not be happier.
