Comments about Kelty Coromell 0 Sleeping Bag (550 Down):

Used it in my house while family was in town. 60 degrees on a hardwood floor. I had to zip it all the way down. That was the advantage. I was able to slide my feet in and out as I needed. I slept very well.

Comments about Coromell 0 Sleeping Bag (550 Down):

Living in Texas most would think I'm crazy for buying a Zero-Degree sleeping bag - but for me anything below 70 and it's time to put on extra clothing! I'm sure I'll get a lighter bag for the 80-degree summer nights but for the rest of the year this bag is perfect.
6' tall - I have plenty of room to work with. I can move my feet and roll over inside the bag with no problems.
It ships with a nice stuff sack but I bought a smaller stuff sack to cut down on the stuff size a bit - it's amazing how small this bag gets. Currently stuffed at 8"x12"

Kelty Coromell 0 Sleeping Bag - Long

        By Larry

        Verified Buyer
        Staff Reviewer

        Pros

        • Could roll over in bag
        • Long enough for 6'2"
        • Roomy for 250 lbs
        • Warm in Alaska's Fall
        • Zip 2 for couple bag
        • Zip off hood

        Cons

          Best Uses

          • 3 season bag
          • Big hikers
          • Not for ultra-lights

Comments about Coromell 0 Sleeping Bag (550 Down):

I LOVE this bag. I used it for 3 weeks in Alaska in late August and early September. Usually slept with my arms and shoulders out given its warmth until the early morning cool. The bag is roomy for me and I'm six feet two inches tall and weigh 250 pounds. I could roll over in the bag. I could reach down and get to the zipper easily. This is the first bag that ever fit me that well.

It has a great compression stuff sack so it packs down quite small, about the size of a rugby ball. It comes with a cotton storage sack so it can air out and not lose its loft. Both bags are labeled "Long" so I don't get it confused with my wife's "Regular" sized bag of the same type. A small detail, but useful when packing things up.

The bag weighs about 5 lbs so it is a little heavy for the ultra-light crowd, but very reasonable for the size and features. If you weren't winter camping you could leave the hood at home and save a few ounces.

If you are tall and carry some beef, I can highly recommend this bag. I roll and sleep on my side and could do it without taking the bag with me. That is a first for me. Try it, you'll like it.

          Questions & Answers

          Q & A For The Kelty Coromell 0 Sleeping Bag (550 Down)

Technology Used In The Coromell 0 Sleeping Bag (550 Down)

          Baffled Construction

Baffles are chambers created between the outer shell and inner liner of a sleeping bag or jacket. These chambers hold the insulation and create an even distribution, preventing unwanted grouping of insulation. There are different types of baffles. A "stitched-through" baffle joins the outer shell and inner liner together by means of direct stitching. Heat loss through seams is a disadvantage of the stitched through baffle. Optimal warmth is achieved through the use of a "box wall" style baffle. This method uses additional material between the outer and inner materials to create a wall that unites the two layers and creates a slightly larger and more uniform baffle. Different variations on the box wall positioning create a variety of advanced baffle systems.

          Down Insulation

Water foul, like geese and duck, actually provide one of the most efficient forms of insulation available. Down is the light, fluffy undercoating at the base of the feathers of waterfowl. Down is a multi-dimensional structure that insulates by creating pockets of still air that retain body heat. Down is highly breathable and exceptionally comfortable. It is longer lasting and much more compressible than synthetic insulation. A disadvantage of down insulation is its loss of efficiency in wet conditions. It will also take much longer to dry than a synthetic insulation. Down is available in different fill powers. Fill power is defined by the amount of loft that is gained under loft test conditions. The higher the fill power number the greater the loft and the greater the performance of the down insulation. Fill powers may range from 500 fill to 900+ fill power.
