First and foremost, these shoes are legit.

So far I've used them at the 24HHH comp in AR, during which they performed admirably as a crag shoe (to rest my feet) and climbed reasonable well on easy routes (2-3 number grades below my redpoint). I bought them with the intention to use on longer routes later this fall (Red Rocks NV & front range CO) for approach and descent. I fully anticipate a fabulous performance based on the light approaches & climbing I've done so far.

That being said, this shoe is not a traditional, technical approach shoe. The minimalist construction, low-profile, and soft soles ensure that this shoe will never match up one-to-one with something like the La Sportiva Boulder. Hence, one's expectations should differ; with proper use this shoe will do well.

FIT: As a minimalist shoe, the fit is snug, but not tight, and the canvas uppers and soft soles have enough give to shape with your foot during break-in period (which was an afternoon around town for me).

SIZE: I went with my street shoe size to accomodate swollen feet after long intervals on route, and am glad I did. I could have gone down at least a half size (if not a full one) to gain a more snug fit in order to climb better in the shoe, but the shoes would have been significantly less comfortable for my high-volume feet.

SOLE: The sole is not even REMOTELY stiff, but the rubber is great. Plus, the toe is flat (as opposed to the dot tread on the rest of the bottom sole) to enable better climbing potential.

CONS: The laces are a bit short; I couldn't fully lace the shoe and tie them. After I swapped the laces, this wasn't an issue.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
