Comments about EarlyLight Tent - 2 Person, 3 Season:

The price is AMAZING for something so darn good.
      Love this tent.
You can use it with just the tent, or just the fly alone. Set up very easy, even in the dark during a good rain! Nice to be able to set up the fly first in the rain, than the tent under its cover. Well vented.
We used this tent almost every night during our 71 day bicycle tour through Europe, late Sept. into early Nov. It kept us warm and dry through near gale winds and rain in Ireland, and Scotland, and warm through very heavy frost in France. It has since been on many other camping trips, and is still going strong.
The only improvement I can think of is to give the fly a bit of an overhang at the vestibule doors, (yes, there are two) though no rain ever got in, we worried about it.
The only thing I didn't like was the bright orange color, so we just bought the same tent in green.
We explored other tents before we got our new green one, but this one is the same size, or a bit bigger, and includes the footprint, and the Gear Loft, which the others don't and they cost more... Go figure!

Comments about EarlyLight Tent - 2 Person, 3 Season:

It is a good tent, rather light and well built. Apses are small, and with a moderate wind, they have a tendancy to touch the internal tent. The presence of two doors is really practical in the use. Good ventilation, and good resistance in the rain. This tent is not made to face moderate or strong winds. I improved the resistance in the wind by adding cords to all the angles, by attaching poles to their point of crossing, and by putting a cord which leaves this point of crossing up to the ground (on both sides) to strengthen the rigidity, and avoid that the wind sticks the cloth of the apse on the internal tent. In this case, we can consider that winds of 60 mph can be faced without breaking poles. Just buy 5 or 6 yards of 3mm cord, and 6 aluminium pegs (V or Y shaped), and you'll feel really safer!

        Q:

Hi, how many guy-out points does this tent include? do you have a wind rating for this tent? I am interested in how it would perform in windy conditions given the two pole assembly. Thanks.

          A:

The early light has 4 guy out points on the fly. Since it has a fairly low profile, it does fine in moderate winds, especially if guyed out and oriented parallel to the wind direction. The Limelight, which is the step up from this tent, has an additional brow pole, but the brow pole doesn't add much to the stability and is there to add more interior space. If you are going to be in really windy 3 season conditions, the Firefly 2P, which has more pole structure, might be a better choice. For moderate wind conditions, a guyed out Trail Light would do fine.
