Comments about eVent Sil Drysacks:
I've used a number of different types of dry sacks, and these, along with the Sea to Summit eVent Dry Sacks, are among my favorites.
The great thing about an eVent dry sack is that you can squeeze the air out of the sack after you've rolled and closed the top. So for bulky, compressible items like down jackets or sleeping bags, you can reduce the space taken up in your pack.
I've also used sacks with compression sacks, and I say, forget them: The straps and buckles add needless weight, and you're liable tear the straps and the bag if you really cinch down. You can get just as good space savings with these, and without the added weight and aggravation of compression straps. Better yet, with these, it's easy to get your sleeping bag into a flat shape that fits perfectly at the bottom of your pack, rather than the round ball that comes with a compression sack.
The advantage of these Granite Gear sacks of over the Sea to Summit sacks is their light weight; they're comparable to S2S's Ultra Sil dry sacks in weight, but with the addition of eVent fabric at the bottom, for squeezing out excess air to reduce volume. The advantage of the Sea to Summit eVent sacks, which have thicker fabric and apparently thicker PU coating, is durability and, presumably, a higher degree of waterproofness. Truth be told, I've fortunately never really put either one to the
test, so this is based on appearances rather than experience.
Both have a place in my pack. I use the S2S sacks for my sleeping bag, as I'd have a very unpleasant trip if that got soaked, so I trade a little bit of extra weight for extra protection. I also use the S2S sack for my bear bag, as it has a convenient loop on the buckle that the Granite Gear sacks lack.
For everything else, I use these Granite Gear sacks, to help keep my weight down and still have a very good degree of protection from rain and accidental dip in a river or stream. For example, I put my tarp (MLD Trailstar, a large pentagon tarp) in the XS sack, as it's easy to compress and takes up less space in my pack than the stuff sack that came with it, and helps keep my pack and other gear clean and dry, if the tarp gets rained on or muddy.
The only improvement I can think of, and this is a nitpick, is that the
buckle could be a bit better. Exped dry sacks (which have been discontinued)
have the best buckles I've ever come across, and other manufacturers would do
well to emulate them. However, this is an extremely minor detail, and these
Granite Gear sacks are lightweight, dependable, easy to use, and very practical.

Comments about eVent Sil Drysacks:
I can honestly say that I will never buy another dry sack for backpacking other than these. It is all about the eVent! I have always hated having to use a valve to get the air out or trying to compress the bag just before I closed it, because air always gets trapped that way.
When I use the MSR eVent Sil Drysacks (I have the 18L & 10L) they are so easy to use. When I take them out of my pack they look like one of those space vacuum compression bags, because all the air has been compressed out of the bottom (eVent) and all that remains is the gear inside. Just like MSR claims, these things streamline the organization in my pack perfectly.
The eVent (bottom of the sack) is basically some of that material that companies are making those breathable and sort of soft rain shell jackets out of. It stops water from getting in while letting air out… think of the eVent as a one way street. I love these things, pay the few extra bucks and get something that is smartly engineered by people who backpack… AND it comes in a snappy & bright lime-green EASY TO SEE color.
