The Men's Firetail GTX from Salewa gives extended lacing and multi-fit footbed that allows for a true customized fit. The EVA midsole with PU Shock Absorber, GORE-TEX®, sticky vibram outsole, climbing rubber rand and a special Aramidic protection on the midsole make it state of the art. This revolutionary generation of approach footwear creates a link between the comfort and lightness of trail runners with the technical features of an alpine approach shoe.

Details

Salewa offers a footbed that allows an individual adjustment of the fit.
The connection of the Salewa 'Y' to the 3D lacing spreads the lacing force onto the whole foot and controls the movement of the heel.
The extended technical lacing towards the front of the shoe allows personal adjustment for comfort and fit
The innovative sole construction combining the lightness and the excellent efficiency of EVA with the cushioning and durability of the PUR heel shock absorber.

I have worn them for one week and the sole is coming off in one spot on one shoe. I guess they weren't glued very well. I like the shoe so I guess I will try to use epoxy to fix them. Too much trouble to exchange with mail order. Probably won't buy these again considering the price and a problem already. I included a photo. No issue with campsaver.com, it's just a quality control problem with Salewa. I expected them to be a better quality shoe. First pair of Salewa, took a chance and had bad experience.

I OWN THREE PAIRS OF SALEWA'S AND THEY JUST KEEP GETTING BETER AND BETER. HATS ODD TO ONLINE SHOE'S.AND TO RICHARD IN SHIPPING. MY FIRST PAIR RAN TOO SMALL. I USUALLY WEAR A 91/2 AND SUGGEST YOU GOT UP TO A SIZE 10. Q:
How do I decide between the Firetail and Alp Trainer?
My feet are narrow and very low volume, and I will be using them for hiking and rock scrambling. One of the Q&A's here mentioned the Firetail is roomy, now is that relative to the Alp Trainer? Thanks

  As far as width goes, the Firetail and the Alp Trainer are about the same. One reason why they can be described as roomy is because they have a multifit footbed. This means you can add or remove part of the footbed depending on the width of your foot. Both shoes have lacing that goes to the toe, so you can adjust fit the whole length of your foot. The Firetail is less hefty and lighter weight than the Alp Trainer and it has a sole meant for sticky performances. The Alp Trainer has a different sole meant for alpine approach and for rock scrambling.

  I tried both. I too am cursed with impossible to fit narrow feet. ( "A" width) I didnt ask for em but thats what I got and I intend to get out and explore, ill fitting shoes in tow. The two shoes are nearly identical except for the sole patterns and lacing eyelet design. I found that I can get a slightly more snug, secure fit with the Firetail. The fabric loop extensions used for eyelets on the Alp Trainer don't allow for the laces to pull the sides of the shoe as tightly as the traditional laces on the Firetail. Not sure what they were trying to accomplish with the eyelet design on the A. T. I usually read tons of reviews for shoes looking for possible narrow fitting shoes. Several remarked or complained about Salewa's being too narrow. Well, I guess they run slightly narrow, but I still cant get quite a secure enough fit after adding my slightly thicker Montrail Enduro-soles insoles. If you can get a fit these appear to be very durable, comfortable trail shoes. Good luck.

  The Firetail GTX and Salewa as a brand have a comfortable/roomy feel. I personally have a wider foot as well and need to shop for shoes with 'higher volume'.
