One of the worst parts about backpacking is filtering all the water, gallons and gallons of water it never ends. Well with this little baby that huge chore is almost made enjoyable. Almost ;)
I've ownded 2 of the MSR sweetwater systems and they are bombproof, I still have one the other one was somehow misplaced. They work great and I never had any complaints except for the flow rate. It took forever to get enough water.
Now that I have the new hyperflow getting water is so fast, easy and simple that I don't hesitate to refil my water bottle on the trail. It's so nice to get to camp and know that you can pump all your water in a couple minutes instead of around 10 and we all know how much water a camp needs for drinking, eating and staying clean.
It does take a little practice cleaning the filter but once it is figured out is is very easy and straightforward. Is it a little more fragile? yes, does it take a little more care? yes. However all the negative is by far outweighed by the positive. Our gear is getting lighter and more sophisticated all the time, it's up to us to learn how to take care of it if we want to take advantage of all that weight savings and performance.

My wife and I are new to backpacking. After much reading, we settled on the MSR Hyper flow water filter. This filter packs down small for a piece of gear. Its only about the size of a small bicycle air pump. I am amazed at how much water this filter pumps given its small size. It can pump a little over a liter per minute for 8 minutes before it needs to be back flowed, which is kind of a pain requiring careful disassembly and reassembly twice prior to resuming use. All in all, I feel the filter pain is worth the quick filling. I am thrilled with this filter so far. Will leave more feedback as I use this more.

I am new to Backpacking. My wife and I are getting started and our spending philosophy has always been do your homework, spend what you need to, and get a good product the first time. MSR has designed the hyperflow to be a great fliter. The instructions out of the box require that you hook up 2 connections and start pumping. Admittingly, the dissambly and reverse flowing can be frustrating, but the saved time and no sore arms from pumping is really worth it. This product does use a touchy fliter media, and a semi complicated tear down to reverse the flow and backflush the filter, and if the filter freezes it breaks, but the filter its self is good enough for me to not care about the hazards. I would recommend to carry a spare filter media- about $40.00, and also the expedition maintnance kit- also about $40.00. If you do, you can repare any problem short of a cracked housing. all in all, I think this filter is great.
