Description

The Etowah II alcohol stove is a super famous stove used along the Appalachian Trail. We get excellent performance from our Etowah II Stove when we are off ultralight backpacking. Heck, even when we're not ultralight packing we use the Etowah II. The stove has an excellent pot support radius and is very stable. Two or three tablespoons of alcohol will boil water in under 8 minutes. Use the included windscreen to increase efficiency and boil time. Everyone should have an Etowah II Alcohol stove.

      Comments about II Alcohol Stove:

Bought this stove to have another cooking option when out on the trails. Its always nice to have an option. Read the reviews which for the most part were good, so I figured I'd give it a try.
After having used it several times I found it to be a good stove. It did what it was intended to do, cook food and boil water. Slowly, but it did so. I really have no complaints.
It is easy to set up and easy to light. It offered a stable platform for my Evernew ECA417 Cookset. Boiled water for my MountainHouse Meals, cooked my OvaEasy Eggs, fried (ever so slowly) my single serving spam, and gave me hot water for my coffee. How could I complain?
The only thing I really didn't like about it is the fuel bottle that came with it. Its pretty weak so plan on getting another. And there is a learning curve as to how much fuel you need. Unlike my Trangia it doesn't store excess fuel.
But overall it is a good stove, good buy.

      Comments about II Alcohol Stove:

So far I have used this stove for only 1 above-freezing overnight backpack, but it performed better than I expected, especially once I read the instructions carefully and started correctly using the outer and inner burner with cover to slow the burn. It is amazingly lightweight and simple to set up, and a "tankful" burns for longer than I expected. It boils a little pot of water faster than I expected (though not as fast as butane). Alcohol was easy to find and cheaper than butane. Downside, as many note, is you cannot see, smell, or hear if it's lit in daylight; once a pot starts to heat up, you can hear the pot metal expanding. So far I have only been able to boil with it. Maybe with some practice/experience, I'll learn to better control the flame for a simmer; until then, I can see using it only for super simple "add boiled water" instant meals like instant potatoes or cous cous.

      Comments about II Alcohol Stove:

This is one of the greatest alcohol stoves on the market! It not only boils, but can be used to simmer. It is a complete package. The only thing you need to add is alcohol, a pot, and food to cook. It comes complete with a pot stand, alcohol bottle, and a wind screen. The design is deceptively simple, but works amazingly well, although it takes a little bit of experience to learn how much alcohol to use in the outer part of the stove versus the amount to use in the inner simmering burner. The instructions that come with the stove provide guidelines on how much alcohol to use, but experience will help you refine those amounts. There are only two things about this stove that I think should be changed. As others have said, after you've used this stove a bit it will rust. I wish it was made of stainless steel or some other kind of rust resistant material. I also wish they used a fire resistant wick material inside the simmer burner rather than cotton. Cotton is OK, but it burns a tad when the alcohol level gets low. If they would fix these two things, I would give this stove six stars (even though five is maximum). One thing to watch for when using this stove is the heavy aluminum cross piece that makes up the pot stand. Due to its thickness it holds heat for a very long time. When everything else is cool, the aluminum is still hotter than heck and you can brand yourself on it.
