Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Pad with PrimaLoft Eco is the first sleeping pad to incorporate one of the outdoor industry's premier insulation materials to provide added warmth. Designed for those seeking an air pad suitable for 3-Season use, these 3.5 inch thick pads share the same I-beam construction of the original Air Core pad, but use a lighter, 40 denier fabric. The stuffed size and weight on these pads are still smaller than any self-inflating foam pad. This extra wide pad is ideal for the Big Agnes Park Series bags and people who like a larger pad to sleep on. For an excellent night's sleep in the backcountry, try the Award Winning Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Pads. Available in mummy and rectangular cut.

Comments about Insulated Air Core Sleeping Pad:

We bought this as an "in house" pad for a last minute get together. Works well for that. Now that we have them we will find other uses, maybe even camping. Pads were easy to inflate (about 25 of a sixty-one's year old breaths). Packs small and somewhat light. Good deal for the price.

Comments about Insulated Air Core Sleeping Pad:

I took this sleeping pad to the Barafu base camp of Kilimanjaro. It was very comfortable and kept me warm. Although my sleeping bag had loops for securing the bag, the pad did not have any loops or hooks. I should have brought a plastic bungee cord to keep the bag from slipping when I pitched my tent on a slanted surface. The pad is light yet thick, insulated, fairly easy to inflate, I am glad I made this purchase plus it was a great price. Also, campsaver worked with me to ewnsure that the gear arrived in time!

We bought the narrower version an found it was not good for back sleepers. Your arms drop of the sides and makes it uncomfortable. This doesn't happen with the larger version.

My sleep bag is lost ranger. What kind of pad should I choose? Mummy or Rectangular?
Asked on 10/23/2012 by David from CA

          A:

The foot girth is 54 inches, so actual width will be close to 27 inches at the foot. As a semi-rectangular shaped bag, you would need to use a rectangular pad to complete the system. Big Agnes sleeping systems rely on the pad to provide insulation on the under side. With a mummy shaped pad, you would lose that insulating coverage.

        Q:

What is the advantage over mummy vs. rectangular?
        Asked on 6/10/2012 by Anonymous

        • Staff Reviewer

          A:

A mummy bag minimizes open space in the bag which minimizes cold spots. If you expect to sleep in colder temperatures, you'll want to consider using a mummy. Most of them cinch around your face in order to keep the heat inside as well. Rectangular bags are generally rated for higher temperatures and summer camping where nights aren't as cold.

I need to know which Big Agnes Pad to buy for the Big Agnes long lost ranger - rectangular or mummy?

          A:

The Lost Ranger series is considered a rectangular shaped bag. You could look at the Big Agnes Air Core, Dual Core, or any rectangular pad.

        • A:

The rectangular version of the Insulated Air Core Sleeping Pad is said to work best with the Big Agnes long lost ranger.

Technology Used In The Insulated Air Core Sleeping Pad

      R-Value

R-Value is a measurement of thermal resistance, or in other words, how well an insulator functions. A higher R-Value means more efficient insulation and a warmer product. For example, a highly insulated sleeping pad may have an R-Value of 5.7 or higher, making it good for four season use. An R-Value of 2 would indicate a much less efficient insulation and a sleeping pad that would be best for three season use.

      Inflatable Sleeping Pads

Inflatable sleeping pads utilize various cells or air chambers to provide a comfortable night's rest. An inflatable sleeping pad is different from a self-inflating sleeping pad, because it lacks the layer of expanding foam and will need to be inflated manually. A stuff sack or one of many inflating devices will speed up the process.
