Comments about Insulated Q-Core SL Sleeping Pad:

Wow, I hate to re-rate this pad from a Four Star to a Three Star, but had the opportunity to use it for an extended trip and was a little disappointed in it. Originally I stated that it was the most comfortable pad I have used, but did note that it had a tendency to bottom out. Because I am a side sleeper, I found over several days that I would feel my shoulder and hips hit the ground when I moved around. This was even if I had the pad firmly inflated. After a while I would wake with a sore shoulder and some back pain since the pad tends to sag when it bottoms out. After four days I was ready to go back to my old and comfortable Dual Core, but ended up going to the Nemo Cosmo since it is a bit lighter and super great to inflate.

It's too bad because I fell in love with this pad, but it's like a relationship in that you have to give it some time to see if it will work for you, and it didn't for me. I plan a three month trek and comfort and ease of inflation is very important to me. As I mentioned, the Q-core takes a lot of work to inflate, especially since I had the 25" pad, and even with an air bag it took me almost five minutes to inflate.

I would still recommend the Q-core for someone that just goes for a few days, and is not a side sleeper, but for me it just didn't work.

Comments about Insulated Q-Core SL Sleeping Pad:

Thought nothing could beat the comfort of my Big Agnes Dual Core 25 x 78" pad, but the Insulated Q-Core SL has done it! My Dual Core was my go too bag for super comfort but it is so heavy and does not pack very small, but sometimes comfort and a good night's sleep is more important than a little extra weight. I found this out on a 24 day trek, where I switched back to my Dual Core after using a super light, but noisy 20 x 72" Thermarest pad. I also tried and loved the Neo Cosmo because the great built-in foot pump that allowed me to fill it in less than one minute. I really like the pump, and it was fairly comfortable, but it was not as comfortable as my Dual Core. Then I tried the Q-Core, and it answered almost all my wishes, lightweight, packs super small, and most of all, the most comfortable pad I have ever used. The pattern feels nice to lay on and thicker outside baffles keep you from rolling off the edge. I have a bad back and mostly sleep on my side and it is great on the shoulders and hips. However, it does tend to bottom out a bit if you first sit on it, or place an elbow or knee on it, but not when you completely lay on it. My only complaint is that because it's such a large pad, it takes a lot to blow it up and deflate. I am using a stuff sack/inflation bag, but it still takes me about four to five minutes to inflate. I am planning a three month trek and will obviously get faster at inflating it, but having the super comfort for all those nights will be well worth the little extra time it takes to inflate it.

Comments about Insulated Q-Core SL Sleeping Pad:

This review is for both this pad (WIDE and LONG version) and for the summit park 15 sleeping bag because I bought them both and I don't want to write two separate reviews!

I have only used it once so far. I had my best sleep ever backpacking on this pad and bag. SOOO ROOMY in that bag with the extra wide and long pad. You have to practice getting the air fill right. Too much air and it might be too hard and you won't be using the pad thickness to your full advantage. Too little air of course and you are not using it either. When it is just right, it is amazing. I slept on my side, on my back, and on my stomach. I could only sleep on my back with previous setups. Also, since the pad is in the bag, I could turn over and over in the bag and it wouldn't get messed up. However, be aware -- you will get a lung workout filling up those 4 inches of air and especially with the wide pad. So be prepared and take your time. Well worth it in my opinion.

I haven't reviewed a lot of other new-age pads or bags, but compared to what I had previously, this setup is a dream come true for me. I am 6'1" and 203 pounds. I am more than willing to pack the weight of this bag and pad for an awesome night's sleep. It actually packs even smaller than what I was using previously (10 year old setup).

I have heard that the shorter pad might have been narrower than advertized. However, I got the wide pad. It was as wide as advertized.

Buying expensive but good equipment like this makes my work more enjoyable because I am working to buy fun stuff. :) Hope this review helps.
