Bought this since I wanted the safety of knowing I could have access to safe water in the back country if I have ever ran into issues, turns out last weekend my issue was forgetting to my camel back at home when I got to the trail head of the Porkies Mts along Lake Superior. My friends kept telling me I was insane using a "flashlight" to purify my water and where taking bets on how long before I got sick. 7 days later I'm doing fine, so that is all I need to confirm the UV did its job. I filled up a couple times from the lake then a few times from the Big Carp river, neither site left me running for the ditch.

One thing to keep in mind is prolonged sunlight can reactivate some of the bugs that the UV light deactivates so after filling don't leave the water sitting in the sun.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this product for a trip to India where water quality is questionable. The Steripen Journey kit is easy to pack (the pen will fit inside the 1 liter Nalgene container) and is very easy to use.
