We just purchased this pack for Christmas, so therefore, have not used it yet. The rating could go up or down when filled with gear and tried. We plan to go in spring, when the weather is better. We purchased this particular product for it's storage features, and by the sales person at a very high profile competitor. They did not carry it any longer, so I googled the brand, and found CampSaver.com
