Comments about Mantra 2.0 Hiking Shoe - Men's:

I had bought the orginal Mantra several years ago and used them extensively, hiking in the American Southwest. They were excellent hikers, except that the cloth material at the heel (i.e. where the heel rubs against the inside of the shoe) didn't last very long.

In any case, I decided to try a new shoe for my planned 221 mile John Muir Trek. I tried:

Salomon Ultra GTX (far too light, sole was too thin). I actually damaged my feet.

Oboz Traverse (very comfortable, but not enough support on uneven terrain like rocks)

Lowa Renegade Boots (expensive, not needed for warm weather hiking)

In the end, I purchased a new pair of Mantras, took out the stock insole and put in two (yes two) soft insoles. The Mantra runs true to size, so I chose a full size larger, taking into account foot-swelling for long distance hiking.

Verdict: This is my "go to" shoe. I hiked the JMT, followed by some hiking in the Yukon, then even more hiking on the East coast.

Significantly, there were no blowouts, rips, etc, of any kind.

Bottom Line: Opinions on hiking shoes are subjective, but I have tried out a number of them, and the Mantras are very good.

Comments about Mantra 2.0 Hiking Shoe - Men's:

I walk on hardscapes all week long while on my job,I had the vasque velocity before but thought I would give the Mantra a try. Very impressed! The shoe is extremely comfortable and while I have only had them for a few weeks they show no signs or wear. After two days of wearing the shoes at work I ordered a second pair. (I did waterproof mine with silicone spray and they handled the rain fine)

    About Vasque

Vasque founder William D. Sweasy traveled to Europe in 1965 and found the company's future. Outdoor recreation and mountaineering were sweeping the continent, and Sweasy knew it was a matter of time until the craze found its way stateside. He began preparing his high quality mountaineering and hiking boots so he'd be ready when the time came. After a brief run under the brand name "Voyaguer Sweasy' changed the name to Vasque in 1971 (for Fort Vasquez in the mountain mecca of Colorado). And no, the rest is not history. The Vasque trail continues today, breaking new ground toward what's next. That's what happens when you keep your eyes firmly focused on the trail ahead.
