I bought my first Mini T while hiking in the UK after not being able to find fuel canisters for my PocketRocket. It wasn't as fast as I was accustomed to, but it was a joy to use. What was really nice though is that it wasn't noisy and I didn't have an empty canister to carry around or dispose of. For the next 3 weeks I kind of got used to using it everyday. I almost forgot about my PocketRocket until I got a little low on funds and traded it for a few items I needed to complete my journey.
When I got back to the States I bought a GigaPower burner to use while hiking until one day I got a hankering to use my Mini T. I'd forgotten the joy of cooking with it, now I'm back to using it all the time again. Ya know, you get hooked on these little things. Its like a lifestyle.
Forget what you heard about alcohol stoves. They can be used anywhere, anytime. Yeah, sure, they may be a little hard to light in cold weather and slow down considerably. But there's ways around this and they work fine in all conditions even though you may have to use a little extra fuel.
I now own 3 Mini Ts and have bought several for gifts. This is a nice set up and works well.

I use this stove to boil water for coffee. It works great and is easy to light. The flame could be more stable. I'll try to dilute the alcohol to 95% and 90% to see if that fixes it.

Coming from using gas stoves to alcho stoves has so far been a great choice.

The only real benefits of a gas stove was they were fast but as others have said, arnt you out in the bush relaxing? What's the rush? In all other aspects, this alco stove is a winner. It is light, packs small, easy to light (I use a flint which packs into the stove), reliable and safe (very very important). Plus it's a pleasure to cook on.

I do urge that if you are coming from a gas stove and considering this then go for it, its not a huge investment if you end up not liking it.

What I will say tho is be prepared to make a better wind shield (just use some foil) and do a few practice runs so you know how much fuel to carry to boil X amount of water.

Seeing as alco fuel is easy to find almost anywhere round the world, let alone Australia (servos etc) and there is no real waste, this stove will be a keeper for me no matter where I go.
