      Comments about Nao Headlamp:

I bought this headlamp for its pure power (350lumens) but it is much, much more. First things first, if you're like me you want to open the box and just wade in and start using. If you are then be advised that the battery is NOT connected when you take the lamp out of the box. I tried to use the lamp to no avail, then I hooked it up to charge, also not effective. I finally read the instructions and hooked up the battery and I was off to the races. Out of the box the unit has only one function programmed - all activities which gives you two settings. Those two settings would probably work for most activities but why stop at two. To program the lamp you must first download a free little program from petzl.com and install. Then plug your lamp into the computer via USB. Petzl has a group of preprogrammed settings (mountaineering, home use, all activities, bivouac, trail running/racing, and hiking/trekking. Most of these have three levels of light versus the two in the standard all activities setting. You can load up to four into the lamp. If those preprogrammed selections don't fit your needs you can make your own.

Once loaded its easy to move from say the hiking to the bivouac setting and then to mountaineering. To turn it on you rotate a square knob on the right side of the lamp and that can be done easily even with mountaineering mittens. It's awesome to watch the lamp adjust from 28 lumens to 300 just by shifting your head up and down or right and left. It dims or brightens almost instantly. Petzl recommends pointing it down a bit to keep in on the lowere lumen
Ens to preserve battery life. I got about seven hours use using the middle setting of the three available in the hiking mode and most of that was hiking on dark, black roads in near zero temps. It will dim down with moisture vapor breathed into the beam in cold conditions and when encountering oncoming car headlamps. It is for this latter condition that petzl does not recommend this lamp for road biking.

All in all, this is a great headlamp -very versatile, easy to use, good battery life, and very bright when you need that kind of power.

        Comments about Nao Headlamp:

I programmed my own settings for Trail Running, which is pretty neat, will take it for a running test tomorrow but so far my back yard tests and camping tests are awesome.

The light dims down and brightens back up pretty quickly, something I was worried about with trail running, I am confident it will do the job well. I run 2 nights a week so come to rely on my lights and being USB chargeable is also a benefit.

        About Petzl

        Petzl
The family company originated with Fernand Petzl, and his passion for caving. One of the leading experts of his generation, he spent his life experimenting with new vertical progression techniques and invented equipment that radically changed the status quo. The Petzl company quickly applied these underground tools and solutions to other vertical environments: to the mountains first - rock climbing and mountaineering - and then to the professional sector, with work and rescue at height. Petzl is now known as the leading innovator in the vertical world and has been associated with all major underground, alpine and Himalayan adventures since the 1970s. While closely involved with outdoor sports enthusiasts and professionals, Petzl remains true to the core values and ways: listening to and valuing their customers, taking innovative and practical approaches and demanding the highest quality.
