At a mere 14 oz (Regular) and 2.5 inches thick, the NeoAir is the lightest 3 season pad that still retains a R-Value of 2.5. What does this mean? You still have a light-weight, compact pad that provides thermal protection from the ground. How did Thermarest do this? Very comfortable; Can be made from hard to soft. I usually sleep on my back. The horizontal tubes support all the nooks and crannies in the back. In a way I wish there was even a shorter version, like 36". Then my head would rest on my pillow (stuffed jacket) and my legs are on a kneeling pad (1oz) and backpack anyway. I use a quilt so my back is right on the pad. Usually within a few seconds I feel heat being radiated back up. Very clever design. For cold conditions, add a CCF pad on top.

This was a great deal at Campsaver. I will keep checking them out for more deals

I'm a big guy, 230 pounds, and I don't sleep well when camping. However, the Thermarest Neoair is amazingly comfortable. It's easy to blow up and compacts down nicely. I highly recommend it. And CampSaver saved me a ton of money and delivered it quickly.

  Easy to deflate but takes an iron lung to fill. Much more air required than any pad I have had before.

  Weight limits have not been assigned to the NeoAir pads, though we do know that they are made to withstand a significant amount of pressure (you can sit on them sideways with the Jembe Seat kit). Should you get a hole in the product, Thermarest offers a Fast and Light Repair Kit.

  The Trekker is made of a different surface material that is not as noisy as its predecessor. The original Neoair is lighter and has a slightly higher R-Value. It is an awesome pad, though the one complaint is the noise it makes when you move around on it. The Trekker is a slightly heavier, but it does not "crinkle" when you lay on it.

Technology Used In The NeoAir Sleeping Pad

R-Value

R-Value is a measurement of thermal resistance, or in other words, how well an insulator functions. A higher R-Value means more efficient insulation and a warmer product. For example, a highly insulated sleeping pad may have an R-Value of 5.7 or higher, making it good for four season use. An R-Value of 2 would indicate a much less efficient insulation and a sleeping pad that would be best for three season use.

Inflatable Sleeping Pads

Inflatable sleeping pads utilize various cells or air chambers to provide a comfortable night's rest. An inflatable sleeping pad is different from a self-inflating sleeping pad, because it lacks the layer of expanding foam and will need to be inflated manually. A stuff sack or one of many inflating devices will speed up the process.
