Description

Montane's Nitro Jacket is a lightweight, compressible, down jacket. The Nitro gives highly effective warmth for an incredibly lightweight piece of insulation. Weighing slightly under 450g (Size L) and filled with a high quality goose down contained within a midi baffle stitch through construction ensures a close body fit that is ideal for wearing in cold weather whilst on the move. The Nitro is designed to be worn either as an outer layer or within a layering system in hostile conditions where warmth and weight are critical.

As with all MONTANE clothing, FREEFLOW fabric contains a Durable Water Repellency (DWR) as the first barrier to keeping you dry. Clean your garment in order to maintain this.
Down clothing ideally needs to be handwashed with care.
Wash in a mild soap in warm water 40C/110F. MONTANE recommends Nikwax Tec Wash.
DO NOT use fabric softeners, bleach or liquid detergent.
Rinse the product thoroughly after washing to remove any soap traces.
You must dry the product carefully in a tumble drier on a cool setting. Check regularly that the product is drying well and turn inside out. Never dry clean.
It will take some time to dry a down product thoroughly, even if the outer fabric is dry the down may not be.
MONTANE recommends a professional cleaning service if in any doubt.

Baffled Construction

Baffles are chambers created between the outer shell and inner liner of a sleeping bag or jacket. These chambers hold the insulation and create an even distribution, preventing unwanted grouping of insulation. There are different types of baffles. A "stitched-through" baffle joins the outer shell and inner liner together by means of direct stitching. Heat loss through seams is a disadvantage of the stitched through baffle. Optimal warmth is achieved through the use of a "box wall" style baffle. This method uses additional material between the outer and inner materials to create a wall that unites the two layers and creates a slightly larger and more uniform baffle. Different variations on the box wall positioning create a variety of advanced baffle systems.

Down Insulation

Water foul, like geese and duck, actually provide one of the most efficient forms of insulation available. Down is the light, fluffy undercoating at the base of the feathers of waterfowl. Down is a multi-dimensional structure that insulates by creating pockets of still air that retain body heat. Down is highly breathable and exceptionally comfortable. It is longer lasting and much more compressible than synthetic insulation. A disadvantage of down insulation is its loss of efficiency in wet conditions. It will also take much longer to dry than a synthetic insulation. Down is available in different fill powers. Fill power is defined by the amount of loft that is gained under loft test conditions. The higher the fill power number the greater the loft and the greater the performance of the down insulation. Fill powers may range from 500 fill to 900+ fill power.
