I just arrived from a four day trip to Half Dome and baked a couple of pizzas at little Yosemite camp in the backcountry. I first dehydrated mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, and pizza sauce. I packed fresh mozzarella cheese, chorizo salami, yeast pack, and pizza Bread pre mix.

At camp I added hot water to dried ingredients and began making pizza dough. Once pizza dough was ready to go and I used half for the first pizza. I noticed that it was a very thin layer as I spread the dough. I added a small amount of pizza sauce enough to lightly coat the dough, added cheese and all the toppings.

Baking was easy but had to rely on time instead of the thermometer. The thermometer does not work which is why I am giving it four stars. None the less after 12 minutes we removed the oven from the flame and removed the cover.

Pizza was perfect! Looked under and had a golden brown crust and opted to put it back on the flame for an additional two minutes. I removed the pizza from the oven and repeated steps for second pizza.

All in all I am sold on this oven and look forward to using it in the future. I do make the following recommendations.

1. Test it out at home. The first pizza I made was burned and had a four inch crust.

2. Do not rely on thermometer, use the recommended bake time on recipe.

3. Use a stove that is able to simmer, I turned it one half turn to heat up oven in first two minutes and then backed it off from 12 o'clock position to 2 o'clock position to prevent the cover from burning.

4. Cover can burn, back off the heat if it starts to smoke. The key to baking is to keep a low flame and let the cover create the right environment for baking.
