I bought the Slipstream Gillet (we say "vest" on this side of the Pond) for some added warmth and wind protection for cool days. I've found that it's also great for cold days between my wool base layer and long sleeve jacket. The garment is designed with a windproof front and super breathable back panel. On long climbs in 30 degree weather, I'll drop my outer jacket and the vest does allow perspiration to escape. I found that it will still get quite damp, but I think this is normal and not a knock on the product. The advantage to wearing the vest, even on long ascents, is that fact that it keeps me from getting chilled when the wind whips up. On the same ride mentioned above, it was sunny with periodic wind gusts. Without the vest, I would have been chilled through, but the Pertex front totally blocks the wind. I like the construction of this vest. The sizing runs a bit larger than other vests I've owned such as Pearl Izumi. The neck seems to be a little larger than I'd personally prefer. Not a deal breaker, but worth noting. Once fantastic feature of this item is that it weighs next to nothing (maybe 3 ounces?) and stuffs down into a fistful sized ball. It comes with its own stuff sack and it's easy to put this in a jersey pocket so you can always pack some extra protection against bad weather.
