FIT: "Mountain Athletic" fit, according to Montane, means it is form-fitting with room for lightweight layer(s) beneath the garment. This is certainly true. I am 6', 140 lbs. Thin and tall. I have a 36" chest, 29" waist. This jacket fits great over base layers and looks stylish, form-fitting, very slick and appears to mean business. Layering over light jacket is possible. layering over bulkier garments (i.e. a fleece, light down jacket) becomes stuffy. A size up may change this, but I'm concerned about the shoulders then being wide. As is, a small fits me well in the shoulders, snug around the torso, snug around the waist, arms a great length with plenty of articulation. The length is supposed to run on the shorter side, but I wouldn't mind an extra inch. Sleeves are just right, no extra fabric bunching up, full articulation without exposing wrists. Am considering exchanging for a medium to make this more seasonally versatile as a shell over moderately bulky layers, although the shoulders would then possibly be a little roomy. May switch to a different brand, in a small, with a regular fit, bit longer, even though this jacket is phenomenally sick in so many ways. Also wouldn't mind an adjustable hood, this one really does benefit from pairing with a hat, and if you're looking to fit a helmet, good luck... Extremely lightweight. Very minimal. If it serves your purposes, it appears a fantastic find.

I'm a minimalist with a closet full of gear...always looking for ways to trim the fat. While I don't like wearing shells (they don't breathe enough), I hate carrying them even more. So when looking for a new jacket, it needed to have unfettered design—lightweight—that offered up uncompromising protection. I new I wanted an anorak that fit well and focussed on keeping me dry while fastpacking or keeps the spray off while packrafting. But I also wanted to use it climbing where I could comfortably wear it all day long.

This jacket fits like no other. The arms allow good reach, and the torso fits snug—providing good visibility of your feet and harness. Its best to be used as part of an action suite. Expect to layer Mark Twight style, that is, over--not under the jacket, for warmth.

I'm not a fan of traditional polyurethane layers - they peel and wetout early. So I really appreciate the fabric, it breathes well enough to run in it and it seems burly enough to put the screws to it.

Cons: your going to have to get used to the tornado closure and the hood has no visor (its really a running jacket, they offer a WPB visor to complement the system).

Montane makes great stuff, I'll certainly be looking more seriously at their kit.
