      Comments about Svea Stove:

I had no need to buy this particular stove other than it looked cool and I am a gear junkie. I really didn't need another stove, but I had to find out why so many people loved it. Soooo, I bought it. I have other stoves that run off of white gas so I was ready to put it to the test as soon as I got it.
I was pleasingly surprised after I got it up and running the first time I used it. Moreso I was impressed by it bioling 16 ounces of water a few seconds over the 4 minute mark.
This stove is all brass construction and very sturdy. It is capable of cooking with any size pot with its adjustable pot holder, and a windscreen isn't needed. I was curious about the adjustability of the flame and found it to be so so at best, but you can simmer with it as well as other white gas stoves. These things simmer better as they get older as the adjustment valve smoothes out.
I haven't done any tests for the length of time the 4 ounces of fuel you put in the stoves tank burns, but I read in reviews of people getting from 40 to 50 minutes burn time. That translates into 10 to 12 Mountain House meals made with one tank if you're bringing the water to a full rolling boil.
It also fries well. I made some eggs and spam with a small teflon skillet and she worked just fine.
All and all I'd say this is a pretty nice stove worthy of the following it gained.
I must add at this point that this stove nests nicely in the larger pot of the Coleman Max Cookset. This is the pot I intend on using with this stove.

        Comments about Svea Stove:

I purchased my Svea 123 brand new in 1971 for $11.50 and it works as well today as it did when it came out of the box. It heats very fast and evenly. The only thing that at times was a pain was having to pour a little fuel in the priming recess to prime & burn and start the pressurized fuel flow. I use to carry a small eye dropper for this. There was a pump accessorie made later to avoid this step. If they are made today like they they were then , you wont regret your purchase. This stove will be around and working long after Im gone from this world.

        Comments about Svea Stove:

I've owned my Svea 123 for 40 years. Only repairs have been a few (home made) gaskets. Cooked hundreds of meals, heated a snow cave, used as a torch to loosen rusted bolts. This is a rock solid, timeless product.

This is the most current version, and my research suggests that the 123 became the 123R circa 1970.

          Q:

Will the old cook kits that came with Svea 123 stoves (from the 70's) sit securely on the new stove. I know the metal pot supports would have to be removed. That was the beauty of the old stoves (how the pots had a "lip" to make them sit securely on the stove).

          • Staff Reviewer

            A:

If you remove the metal pot support from the stove, the burner has the same structure as the Svea 123 Stove. So your older cook kits should fit on the burner, just as they did before.
