Comments about Switch LT Hoody - Men's:

I just have to say Westcomb makes high quality gear, with great attention to detail.
The combination of breathability and water proof is unbelievable! This fabric is years ahead of Gortex.
Whether I'm snowboarding in a bitter cold winter or hiking in the summer, there is no other jacket on the market better. I personally prefer the ventilation over anything else. One of the lighter weight if not lightest NeoShells with pitzips out there. Napoleon pockets great and good length. Not super trim cut, between athletic and more relaxed. Highly recommended!

Comments about Westcomb Switch LT Hoody - Men's:

Took this jacket up Mt. Rainier last week for it's first use and it performed WONDERFULLY. Hiking up to Camp Muir (10,000 feet) we were in a cloud cover at about 28-30 degrees Fahrenheit. Cold enough to need a jacket, but the level of activity and heat output from my body requires a jacket that can BREATHE. This jacket BREATHES. The soft, stretchy new Polartec Neoshell was more breathable than my Gore Tex jacket and the eVent jacket I used to wear by a long shot. With the pit zips, I was good to go even on the steep sections where I was working hard. Up at 10,000 feet, in the strong wind and low temps, the shell fit perfectly over a fleece and insulating layer. Not only did it protect me from the wind like the best Gore Tex jacket on the market, the functionality and fit of the hood surprised the socks off me.

Love this jacket. I look forward to using it for many years to come.

        About the color(Alpine Red).
Is the color of pockets red or grey?

The pockets of the Alpine Red Switch LT Hoody are grey in color.

The pockets are hidden by a flap, but the part you can see is red. The zipper pulls are grey. If you go to, you will be able to see a close up of what they look like.

I notice that in two of the reviews the zip is reported to not run smoothly. No such fault is reported for the Apoc jacket. Why not? Do they use the same zips? Is the Apoc material slightly stiffer?

I have not had one problem with any of the zippers on this jacket. It could be operator error with the other owners.

        • Staff Reviewer

The two jackets are featured with the same type of zipper. Unfortunately, there is no technical reason why the zippers would perform poorly. Our experience is that both jackets zip easily, and have not found either to not work correctly.

        • A:

Looking at the web site, the zippers in the two jackets are described identically. One cannot say for sure why the zippers in one jacket have reported problems while the other does not. Perhaps the users of the one are pickier or the users of the other are smarter.

This is advertised by westcomb as a lightweight shell, how small does it pack down? The new gore active shells pack down to about the size of an orange for example.

Although the Westcomb Switch LT Hoody is advertised as a lightweight shell, it does not necessarily pack down small. Packed down to its smallest size would probably be about the size of a cantaloupe, to keep with the fruit analogy.

How well does this product breathe compared to the new Gore tex Active shell?

According to recent tests by independent labs, NeoShell does breathe better than Gore Tex Active Shell. If you do a google search for Neoshell Vs Gore-tex Active Shell, you will find some good articles and data.
