Comments about Trail Pro Sleep Pad:

I got this pad to replace my Thermarest Trail which had developed a few too many holes. So far the trail Pro seems to be an upgrade; the surface is much less slick, the extra padding and insulation is notable and I am hoping that it will be more durable. I still do not like the fact that you have to use a good breath or three to finish inflating. I hate the idea of all that moisture being trapped in there, and the fact that that warm air will contract meaning another lungfull is required.

Comments about Therm A Rest Trail Pro Sleep Pad:

Got this for Father's Day because my wife used hers (women's model) last summer and loved it. It is extremely comfortable and easy to inflate. I have been having difficulty sleeping on the ground, but not with this pad! It doesn't compact for backpacking as much as some others on the market, but the comfort makes it worth it. I don't like that it should be inflated for storage, but that is the case with any self-inflating pad. Well worth the price!

Comments about Trail Pro Sleep Pad:

I'm not an avid hiker, but I bought this for a hike to Havasupai, AZ. It worked out great. There are smaller and lighter pads, such as the Thermarest Anniversary Pad and Prolite Pad, and for those who will use it several times a year, that might be worth it to go with one of these. But I go on this type of hike 1-2 times a year and at 60% the cost, and only 8oz heavier it is a great bargain.
The pad itself was comfortable, but narrow so if you're a rolling sleeper, you will be out of luck with this as with any other compact sleep pad. However, I didn't bottom out on the pad and it was supportive. It was easy to inflate and deflate, but the stuff sack is a little to big. Fortunately, I found a 3 pack of stuff sacks at a big box store for a few bucks and one of the sacks fit this perfectly. Overall, I would recommend this product.

        Questions & Answers

Q & A For The Therm A Rest Trail Pro Sleep Pad

Technology Used In The Trail Pro Sleep Pad

        R-Value

R-Value is a measurement of thermal resistance, or in other words, how well an insulator functions. A higher R-Value means more efficient insulation and a warmer product. For example, a highly insulated sleeping pad may have an R-Value of 5.7 or higher, making it good for four season use. An R-Value of 2 would indicate a much less efficient insulation and a sleeping pad that would be best for three season use.

        Self-Inflating Sleeping Pads

Self-Inflating pads have a layer of open cell foam enclosed within the pad. When the valve is opened on a compressed pad, the foam is allowed to expand as air enters the pad. A few breaths of air will help to achieve a firm mattress, while opening the valve to release air will allow for a softer pad.
