Maybe not to be worn in public unless you want to look like Marge Simpson , but layered with another beanie, makes for a great winter hat around the camp and during sleep to keep warm. A sleeping bag for your head and packs down super small and ultralight weight.

I have to preface this review by saying this is a great product, but it didn't meet the needs of my particular application. It might fit your needs though, depending on how you'll use it.

I got this hat for cold weather backpacking. It was particularly for keeping my head warm while sleeping. I start with my head in the hood of the sleeping bag, but by morning, I somehow work my head out, and I need a hat to keep my head warm. This hat did not work. First, the sewn areas have no down, and I could feel little bands of cold seeping in around my head. Secondly, when I would turn, the side of the hat on my pillow/clothes stuff sack would be compressed, so I would get a rush of cold on that side until the down recovered. Third, the inside of the hat is also nylon which is a little slippery and would come partially off at times. My fleece hat weighs a little more than this, but it breathes as well, it doesn't have cold spots, and it stays on my head.

Like I said though, this Transcendent Beanie might work really well for a different application. If you're looking for a really light weight hat to use during hiking/climbing breaks, as a beehive style fashion statement (totally cool here), and if you're not going to be using it for sleeping, this could be really great for you.
