Comments about Ulster Jacket - Men's:

I purchased this jacket as a shell to use while snow kiting. I have lots of soft shells and I wanted something basic that I could layer underneath for colder weather or wear with just a thermal when it is warmer. The jacket is also nice for just wearing around. The only two bad things are that the hood will not fit over a helmet and the two front pockets don't have velcro or a zipper to close them (not a big deal though. You could probably sew some velcro on yourself if you absolutely need them to close securely). For the price, it was a no-brainer. A great waterproof (yet breathable) shell for under $100.

I am a Mountain Hardwear customer and I buy the clothing line for the different outdoor activities I participate in. Their lines of clothing is designed for all types of wear. The MH clothing selections vary in technical design based on the type of activity you are doing, whether its climbing a 14000 foot mountain or walking the dog at home in the rain. The choices you have to meet your needs based on the type of activity you are doing is amazing and there is something for every level of activity. The Ulster jacket is one of my favorite everyday outside coats. I use this semi-light weight jacket during Oregon's long Fall, longer Winter and wet Spring months for a daily coat. It looks good, feels good and meets the needs for short periods of outside wear in cool wet weather. If I were going on a climb or long distance hike I would opt for a different type of jacket.
