    Comments about Westwind Stove-no Burner:

After reading mostly positive reviews on the Westwing Stove I decided to give it a shot. The stove does what it is intended to do, give a solid and stable platform for your Trangia burner and pot/kettle. I like it too because it folds down flat making it easy to pack. Thus far it has worked very well for me.
However, the stove is not without its flaws. Several reviews I read stated that the stove works better when turned upside down. The claim is that it will boil water faster. I haven't tried this yet, I'm not a speed demon and my boling times seemed just fine for me. However, I certainly wouldn't complain had the makers of the stove listened to what the users said and made neccessary adjustments to achieve better boil times.
I also noticed that allot of wind was able to get thru the stove creating problems with the burners flame. I did make a windscreen out of the bottom of a turkey roasting pan... the throw away pans that you buy for single use. It helped allot, but not totally. With the size of my pot there was still allot of open space for the wind to penetrate, but that can change with a larger diameter pot.
The biggest flaw for me was not being able to store the stove in any of the pots I have so that I could have an integrated unit. Its is just too long to be stored in my pots standing up or laying down. While its not a deal breaker for me because its light and folds down flat anyway, it certainly would have been nice to be able to store it in one of my pots.
In any event I do NOT regret buying the stove and will continue to use it on and off as I do my other stoves.

      Comments about Westwind Stove-no Burner:

Used w/ Trangia Stove but also with homemade alcohol stoves. Since it is a windguard and potstand all in one, it's a welcome piece of eqpt. There are other solutions I know, but this was something cheap to try. And Campsaver.com is not shy about placing it on sale from time to time. One thing, it's not very useful as a potholder unless the width of your pot's base is over 3 2/8 inches.

        Comments about Westwind Stove-no Burner:

I use the product when backpacking or car camping. Took it on an overnighter in the back country for all my cooking needs, took it to the Grand Canyon car camping to supplement our dual-burner stove and made coffee in the tent vestibule while it was snowing. I love the way it disappears into your pack, and it's fun to put together. I really can't think of any downsides.

Technology Used In The Westwind Stove-no Burner

        Alcohol Stoves

Alcohol burning stoves are one of the simplest and most popular options for cooking in the great outdoors. A simple cup shape design allows unpressurized alcohol to be burned providing an efficient source of heat. There are multiple fuel sources for an alcohol stove, the most common being methanol, like HEET, or isopropyl alcohol. Alcohol stoves are regarded as one of the most nature-friendly options for cooking in the wilderness.
