Product Info for Innova Helios Rudder Assembly
The rudder is recommended when the Helios is paddled as a double sea-touring kayak when the boat is loaded near its capacity. The rudder helps the kayak track well in a straight line. The rudder is not needed when paddling the double Helios as a single or when paddling in swift moving water. The rudder simply fits over the stern seam of the Helios and attaches in a couple of minutes with stainless steel hardware. The rudder is controlled with foot stirrups from the aft cockpit. The rudder can be quickly disassembled and carried flat in the Helios packbag with the boat. The construction is of a machined black UHMW composite with a corrosion-resistant aluminum swing-up fin. Should you want to add a rudder to the Helios I, you will need longer control cords to the foot stirrups as the cockpit in the Helios I is further away from the rudder. Please contact Innova for the longer cords.
