I recently purchased this water filtration system to use on a trip up to the summit of Mt. Mitchell here in NC. I have previously used an MSR Miniworks hand pump filter, and I have to say, after experiencing the capacity of this water filter, the ease of use, and the fast filtration rate, I think it might be time to retire the hand pump.

Used this filter for a 5 day / 4 night Rae Lakes Loop Backpacking trip in Kings Canyon National Park. It was very nice to let gravity do all the work. Its pretty easy to fill at least it was in a place with flowing streams. I agree it would be hard in spots with very low or mucky water. In that case you would want another container to first let sediment sink to the bottom.

All i can say is, it pumps like a dream. Super easy. The first chap must have reinserted the cartridge incorrectly, which is kind of easy to do, so pay attention. We used this filter for a weekend backpacking trip on the Mogollon rim in Arizona. We filtered 5 gallons of water in no time for our group of 10 with no effort other than filling the bag and finding a tree to hang it.
