Lumens are the measure of a unit of light; the higher the number of lumens, the brighter the light would be. There is no absolute maximum number of lumens.
The Minimum Required Lumens per light:
When exploring caves, explorers should bring at least three different light sources. The first is the primary light source, usually a headlamp or a light attached to the helmet. The secondary light source is usually the brightest among the three. It should have a focusable lens. The third is the emergency light source, the most durable of the three. The emergency light should be small and long-lasting if the other two light sources die out.
A climbing or caving headlamp or headlight is a light source affixed to the head for outdoor activities at night or in dark conditions. The headlamp is strapped to the head or helmet with an elasticized strap. They are designed so that the light emitter is positioned near the front of the head. Batteries power them, and some caving headlamps have a battery compartment at the rear of the head.
If you're planning to go on a caving trip, an absolute must-have is a good light source. You can find other great lighting products such as flashlights and lanterns.
