I've only used them on one winter trip to the Adirondacks. We experienced lows of -17F, and wind speeds over 30mph on the summit of Algonquin. Being able to zip these on without taking off boots and crampons was necessary. The warmth wasn't extreme, but was enough, and the fabric cuts the wind, which was also necessary. Likely, a great layer piece or a warm pair of pants for camp after backpacking. I am 5'8 155lb, female, athletic build. I bought a medium and they were too small in the thighs to comfortably relax or exercise in. Waist and length were fine, so ordering a size up would likey make them too long and big in the waist. Unfortunately returning, wish they fit!
