OK to carry this in a bathing suit pocket? Will sea water damage it if submerged?

It is submersible, so you would be fine. Just make sure to rinse it after ocean/sea because of the salt-water build up.

Is this an altimeter as well or just a wind meter?

This product is a wind meter, it does not have an altimeter function.
