The upper material is actually their proprietary membrane fabric, OutDry Extreme. It is a membrane that never wets out. This is backed with a normal synthetic boot construction. If it does crack, Columbia has an awesome warranty, although we have not seen any come back yet. Let us know if you have any additional questions.
