Because the material is mostly cotton, the pants would not be suitable for skiing. The cotton would absorb the snow and they would freeze so they would become stiff and unfunctional.
These are my go to ski pants, XC tour or down hill resort skiing. These are waxed cotton and do require regular waxing to be maintained but offer substantial protection from from snow moisture while providing the best breathability that you can get from any "waterproof" textile. I only opt for synthetic textiles on the wettest snow days. I am a professional ski patrol and wear these waxed cotton pants 5 days a week on the mountain. They are far more durable, comfortable, and offer more utility by design and features than most "ski" pants. In my off season I conduct field work for agencies in some of the roughest terrain in adverse weather, here again, I chose the waxed cotton textiles. So yes... These make good ski pants for professionals.
