This product should not have any adverse effects on the vinyl, but it is also made to coat the inside of the fabric. It is usually suggested that you test items like this on a small unseen spot on your fabric to see what it does to the color. If you are just looking to seal the seams then we do have products that are made specifically for that (see http://www.campsaver.com/seam-sealer-2-oz).
