Is the boot heavy for hiking? Do your feet overheat in the summers?

Thank you for your inquiry. The Scarpa Himavan GTX boot is a lightweight boot considering the terrain it can handle. I don't know the type of terrain or conditions that you will be hiking in so it is difficult for me to be really specific. We do have hiking boots that are lighter and provide simular support and performance. Zamberlan's 230 Crosser Mid GTX is only 1lb 2oz per boot and has been one of our best sellers last year. The Alp Trainer Mid GTX from Salewa also is a very good multi-use boot, weighing in at 1lb 5 oz per boot. Lastly, the St. Elias GTX boot from Vasque weighs in at 1 lb 9 oz per boot.

The boots that are listed above are all similar to Himavan GTX boot and would be a great versatile choice. If you would like to reduce the weight further there are some of these versions made in a low shoe.

If you will are looking for the lightest hiking boots and don't mind less structure and versatility there are many options available. Many brands offer models designed to meet this need and are often labeled as speed hiking. These models are designed to be comfortable, light, and flexible for shorter day hikes over less rugged terrain. Here are a few models: Vasque Breeze 2.0 Mid , Asolo Reston Mid , Asolo Piuma Mid, Treksta Evolution Mid, Lowa S-Cloud, Adidas Terrex Fast X Mid, Salomon Synapse Mid.

It is tough to answer your question about feet overheating in the summer. Variables to consider are the terrain you will be hiking in, the weather you will often be in, the intensity and pace you often trek in, and how your body responds to hiking adventures. Any waterproof boot or shoe sacrifices some breathability to achieve waterproof performance. Often in the summer a mesh or water-resistant option works really well. Although if you find yourself often hiking across creeks and streams or hard rainfall a waterproof boot could serve you the best.

I hope this has been helpful for you. We are currently working on upgrading our site so that it is easier to search through our footwear section and find the best choice to fit your needs. Please feel free to contact us with any other questions. Have a great day!
