Can you tell me if this valve will fit a MSR fuel bottle or does it only work with the Trangia fuel bottles? — 3 Answers

The threads of the Trangia Fuel Safety Valve can fit the MSR fuel bottle. But we would suggest using the Trangia Fuel Bottle, as it is the bottle it was designed for.

The Fuel Safety Valve will work with MSR fuel bottles, as well as the Trangia bottles.

Although this "will" fit the threads of an MSR bottle MSR bottles are un-coated inside and alcohol will corrode and degrade your bottle. Primus and Optimus bottles are lacquered internally to protect the aluminum from the corrosive effects of alcohol.

Eventually storing alcohol in an un-coated aluminum fuel bottle will weaken it to point of danger when used with pressurized fuel.

I've had good luck lacquering the smallest MSR bottles myself for alcohol use, but I dedicate them for alcohol only and never use under pressure with regular fuel just in case. Once I found out Primus bottles are already coated I no longer need to do my own.
