I bought this jacket for backpacking and it fits the bill perfectly. This jacket can compress down to approximately 4 x 7 inches. It's super-lightweight. It's also very warm. With a medium weight base layer and long sleeve shirt, this jacket should keep you warm down to 15 or 20 degrees. If you're generating heat by hiking or other activity, it will keep you warm in even colder weather.
