Thomas Mc's Review of ALPS Mountaineering Camp Creek 6 Tent - 6 Person, 3 Season

The Camp Creek 6 tent, for me, has been a great upgrade from my previous tent. I am six foot tall and have leg problems - it's not easy for me to stoop down when I get in my previous tent and was looking for something that I could just walk right in to. This tent fills the bill. It is easy to setup - not much difference to setup than my previous 3 person tent. I would recommend to have another with you just for the portion of putting the rain fly on - the tent is pretty tall and it was slightly difficult for me to get the rainfly over the top of the tent by myself. Otherwise it was very easy to setup.

I set up the tent in my back yard just to make sure everything was included as I do not intend to use the tent until later this summer and to familiarize myself with it.

This tent will easily fit me and my girlfriend and our queen airbed with room to spare for clothes and even a side table if needed.

I did elect to order larger tent stakes for this tent as the ones that come with it are the standard 6-7 inch ones that bend very easy.

A few things to note on this tent:
1. There are no tie downs for the windows when they are open - they just hang loose, but that is easy to get around with a few pieces of string
2. The top is vented mesh - if you do not have the rainfly on, the tent is basically just a mesh screen for the roof. In colder temperatures this may give some folks pause on keeping warm inside the tent
3. This tent DOES come with a rainfly - although Camp Saver's stock photo does not show it.
4. The 6 person tent that was delivered was the Grey w/Blue Accents version - it was not the Brown w/Orange accents version as shown in the stock picture. I actually prefer the Grey tent only because the rainfly on the Brown one is a light green, which does not match the rest of the tent at all. The Grey Tent has a Grey rainfly.
5. I was able to get the tent back into the tent bag without too much effort, my previous coleman tents would never fit back into their bags without forcing it and ruining the zipper - I don't think I will have that problem with this tent.

All in all, it seems like this tent is well made, and I got a great deal from Camp Savers, so I am happy. We will see if it lasts me several years like my last tent has :)
Pros:
  • Easy to set up
Cons:
  • open mesh roof
Best Used for:
  • Family Car Camping
