I haven't taken this jacket into the alpine yet, but I already know it will be in my pack on my next adventure, and will be my go to fall-winter-spring layer when there are cold conditions, while I'm exerting a lot of effort, like when we're the only people at the sport Crag in the middle of winter. *** My layering setup: Spring/Fall- T Shirt/Psiphon, Winter: Light Base layer/R1/Atom SL or LT/Psiphon. It's very comfortable, with a full range of movement, and feels extremely durable, it breathes very well, and it is super light and packs down well. Not much more to ask of a softshell. Its versatility makes the price, especially the sale price, worth every penny. I tested it out in a huge summer downpour and it did pretty well. It soaked through after about 15 mins, but it dried very quickly after it was over. The main thing was that I didn't overheat and sweat out the inside of the jacket like I do my hard shell, and this was in the middle of a humid Ky summer rain storm. *** Sizing is pretty standard for Arcteryx, I'm 32" waist and 6' tall and the Medium has room for layering underneath, sits below my harness, and isn't too baggy. You can pretty much count on Arcteryx to deliver on the cut and fit of any jacket. I highly recommend this softshell to anyone who only wants a single softshell to cover all of their needs.
