RickO's Review of Asolo Fugitive GTX Hiking Boots - Men's

Both my wife and I got a pair of these boots about 15 years ago. This design has not changed in that many years! They have been good boots for the light use that we have given them, but last year the soles (tread rubber) have started delaminating from the "hard foam" DuoAsoflex midsoles. I believe this is a problem with the foam and the glue material deteriorating due to time, not hard use. The bottom tread still has tons of rubber and good traction. We are giving them 3 stars for the good years of use, but can not give more due to how they have both starting failing. This type of failure always worries us, because if we were to be using them on a backpacking trip, being miles into a remote place, we would probably be retaining the sole rubber with extra shoelaces. Since this type of failure has always worried me, we use soles that sewn to the leather, for our backcountry backpacking. I guess if you're using older Asolo boots for remote hiking / backpacking, you better be carrying a tube of Shoe Goo.
Pros:
  • Nice fit
  • Good Upper Contruction
Cons:
  • Mid Sole material longevity not good
Best Used for:
  • Light day hiking
