Great canister! better than a bear bag. - BearVault BV500 Journey Bear Resistant Food Canister

I spent the first few years of backpacking using a bear bag + 50' rope, and at the time I had no problem with it. But over the years I've found myself in many situations (esp in pine forests) where I simply cannot find a suitable branch for hanging a bag properly. My friend who frequents the PNW hiking scene convinced me to try the Bear Vault and I haven't looked back! Plenty of space for 3-4 days of food for myself + any scented items I carry (once you get the hang of how to organize it well). I just fill it up, jam it behind a log or rock, and go to bed! I've never had any issues with animals or pests. If you are tired of hanging a bear bag, I recommend these for sure! I will admit I've never used the Garcia, Frontier, or other popular models .. but the fact that this doubles as a seat kind of sells me on it alone! Plus, it's fun to adorn it with stickers, because it seems every time I order a new piece of gear, I get 40 stickers with it as well!
