I purchased the Red Canyon 4 as an upgrade to an older Alps Vertex 4 man tent. The main draw was the increased head room. As time wears, being able to stand up in the tent becomes less a luxury. This tent allows a 6' 5" tall guy to almost stand upright, which is just what I wanted. The slightly larger footprint keeps heads and feet away from walls, and the extrememly well vented rain fly keps this tent surprisingly cool, even in direct sunlight. The 'luxuries' of having the built in lighting and solar power are also appreciated. Using the lights sparingly, you can stretch out the battery life for the MtnGLO lights for several evenings, and makes the tent real easy to find at night. This really is a car tent, but with a couple of 15L compression sacks, it packs down small enough to use for motorcycle camping, though I would keep it to a few days at each site, because pitching and knocking down is not nearly as fast as a backpacker's tent. At four pounds heavier than the 4 man backpacker I have, the weight and size is negligible for moto-camping. The Goal Zero power will light half the tent at night, if your camping remote, and charging a cell phone during the day when the sun is out gives you more power at night. Big Agnes build quality is fantastic, and the only 'reservation' I have is the durability of the MtnGLO lighting over time. Time will tell, and I'm confident B/A has done it right. At full price this tent is worth every penny, Campsaver made it a great deal, and will continue to be my "go to" for my camping gear.
