travelinhobo's Review of Big Agnes Blue Lake 25 Sleeping Bag FireLine Pro, Right Zip - Womens
I have owned several sleeping bags from quality outdoor companies over the years, 3 others in the past 5 yrs, and have never had one I wasn't happy with. Until now. The following is what I've gotten...
1. Less than 2 wks. after start of usage, pulled threads discovered on both sides of bag. Nothing which would cause this had been in tent nor on my clothing. Previous sleeping bag which was it's replacement had been in tent under exact same conditions for months with no damage incurred. Clearly the material is so delicate, that it doesn't withstand normal usage.
2. The sleeping bag has just been washed after 2 months of usage, exactly as previous bags, but normal ground in grime/dirt didn't come out. The interior of bag still has a lived-in look to it.
3. On cold nights the bag is reversed for sleeping so that the hood keeps the heat in from the top. I often wake up to find it has slid half way around my body instead of staying in place because the interior and exterior are so smooth/slippery.
4. The interior material is so staticy that dirt and hairs cling and stay clung to it even after shaking it out (which is a necessity if camping in dusty/sandy areas).
5. This is NOT a no-snag zipper. What a blatant lie.
6. There is a small loop on the inside of the bag near the top of the zipper for some unknown reason. It happens to be in the exact spot I zip up to (which means others do as well) and makes it a pain in the neck when trying to grasp the zipper to undo.
7. The sewn in label for care instructions starts off by insulting the new owner and calling them a 'dirt bag'. What an insult!
8. Warmth factor - It's rated down to 25 degrees as the "comfort rating", but anything lower than 40 requires a light blanket inside in order not to get cold. This comfort rating is another blatant lie.
(I would love to meet the female in the design dept who tested this and approved it at a rating that's so deceitful.)
I am so dissatisfied with, yet, another piece of you-know-what made by corporate America. I live outdoors, on my bike, with no stable income and don't have money to waste. When this thing goes, my next sleeping bag will be a couple of blankets from Wallyworld - cheaper and they'll stay in better condition longer and keep me just as warm. I'm fed up of overpaid CEO's taking my money and giving me nothing worthy in return. I highly recommend you steer clear of this company. If they lie about one product, they'll lie about all of them.
Pros:
Lightweight
Cons:
too many
Best Used for:
