AJ's Review of Black Diamond Bipod Bivy,Green/Yellow
Bivy is well constructed with quality materials. However, I encountered several problems in set-up and usable space. The bivy came without instructions. This left doubt about proper way to insert the hood pole and use zippers. A high tension is required to get the single hood pole into the end anchor tabs and then even harder to get the pole set behind the zippers. This is a material tear just waiting to happen. There is no pole sleeve to guide and keep the pole in position. I purchased the bivy based on it's larger than average dimensions. However, the envelope design foot end negates this advantage. I can't imagine anyone much over 6' and 200 lbs. being comfortable in this bivy. My comments are based on in-house set-up and getting use to using the bipod bivi. Getting in the bivy is fairly easy with it's side zipper. But once the rain cover is zipped up there is no vent openings like in some two pole bags. When the bug screen or flap is zipped close they are a couple of inches above your face but the top material tapers down fast and lays on your chest. The limited foot box height is also noticable. On the plus side the bivy has a streamlined shape with anchor straps at each corner. The basic construction looks like it will keep the camper dry. As a new owner of a Black Diamond bipod bivy my major complaint is with the difficulty in inserting the hood pole.
Pros:
- Good construction/material
Cons:
- Difficult pole set up
