Kristin's Review of Black Diamond Climbing 8.9 mm Dry Rope

This is the first gym rope I’ve ever bought. We’ve been using my climbing partner’s 10mm workhorse. We wanted something thinner to try. Got it in the 50m, but only because they didn’t have a 40m. My first experience with this new rope was that it got super tangled. But after we went up a few routes and pulled it through the quick draws it started to straighten out. It’s so thin and light. Beautiful color, if that matter to you. Very bright. Feels soft and glides nicely through the fingers when clipping. Would definitely recommend.
Pros:
  • Lightweight, soft feel, easy to clip, slides through a Grigri so smoothly
Cons:
  • Twists right out of the package but run it up a few routes and this rectifies it.
Best Used for:
  • Lead climbing
