hh's Review of Black Diamond First Light 1.0 Stretch Hoody - Men's
I like Black Diamond gear, and have a love the Cirque Shell in an XL. Great jacket.
I bought this to go under it as an insulator that would not over-insulate the back when wearing a pack. Seemed like a good idea. But the fit was loose through the belly, not a very athletic fit. The insulation areas were densely padded and seemed overly insulated, especially when the back and underarms are not. That wool fabric seemed a bit heavy - in fact the whole jacket was a bit heavy. I guess I expected something lighter, more of a mid-layer.
Maybe a large would have been trimmer in the belly, but I suspect it would have been too tight in shoulders and chest. And I didn't like the execution of the jacket enough to try a different size.
I admit I did not try this jacket in the field; maybe it would have worked brilliantly, but I can't comment on that.
