Bruce's Review of Camp Chef Mountain Series Everest 2X High Output Two-Burner Cooking System
I recently purchased an Everest 2X stove manufactured by Camp Chef and sold in my case by Camp Saver. My initial experience with this stove is that I could only get a medium low to low flame out of one of the 20,000 BTU burners and when lighting both burners there was nearly no flame out of each of the 20,000 BTU burners. I communicated my problem to Camp Chef and they sent a new regulator and hose. To make a long story short neither the new regulator or hose made any difference in performance. However, I have used a non-Camp Chef hose that I purchased separately from Alloxity and that hose has worked perfectly with the Camp Chef provided regulator and the Everest 2X stove. This tells me that the hose that Camp Chef is selling is malfunctioning and I suspect that the excess flow valve that is incorporated into the hose connector is for some reason sticking largely shut and greatly retarding the flow of gas into the stove. During the course of my conversations with Camp Chef I was advised that I should only marginally open the valve from the propane tank to ensure that the stove's regulator valve does not activate its excess flow valve and thereby greatly limiting the flow of gas from the propane tank. There is nothing in the stove's operating manual that describes this process--it merely states on page 6 of the manual to: "Open the valve." In any event the issue does lie with the stove's regulator, the problem in my experience stems from a defective hose sold by Camp Chef. If it were not for the problem experienced with the Camp Chef hose I would have given this stove 5 stars, but the problem encountered with the hose was extremely problematic and caused considerable unnecessary inconvenience and frustration.
While I have checked the Not Recommended block above I want to make it clear that the stove works great when used with a hose not sold by Camp Chef. In my case I could only get the stove to function properly when used with a metal braided hose I purchased separately from Alloxity.
