Campin Cathy's Review of Crua Outdoors Hybrid Tent

I bought this on Kickstarter to replace my awesome Lawson Blue Ridge hammock that I have used 12 days a month for the last 3 years. My first impression of the Crua was that it was well made, but there was a lot of overkill. The biners are super heavy, as are the spreader bars. There are also 2 sets of tent poles for the head, which for backpacking, one would stay back. I didn't like the suspension. It was thick ropes with no ring or hammock clew. When I first hung it, it leaned to one side, I couldn't get it flat. I thought it was the suspension so I re-rigged it with dyneema, which I would have done anyway. When taking off the original lines, they had cut the extra rope off, so even if I wanted to adjust them, there was no way to do it. The thing still never laid flat even after I put the new lines on. I took it to my friends who sew and we determined that it was sewn wrong in the foot box. The grommets were already pulling. I tried to get a couple more nights out of it, but sadly after 20 day, I ended up on the ground and the whole bottom ripped off. I had contacted Crua to tell them it wouldn't lay flat and the said send pics. I didn't get back to them at first since I was trying to figure out where it was going wrong. Now that it's broken, I've emailed them twice with pics and I haven't heard anything. You'd think they'd be interested in getting it back to see where their production problems are, but apparently not. So now I'm stuck with this $300 piece of useless garbage and I'm back on Campsaver ordering my second Lawson. Btw, I can't talk about the sleeping pad and bag that came with the tent. I never used them.
